Gross Motor

What is Gross Motor?

Gross motor skills are the foundation of how we use our bodies to do physical activities that require the use of our large muscles for coordination, core stability and strength.

Gross motor skills are needed everyday in play, running, climbing, dancing, jumping, catching, and sports.

Why is Gross Motor important?

Solid gross motor skills are required for successful fine motor skills and academic achievement.

The Geersten et al. scientific study found, "fine and gross motor skills were associated with better performance in all five tested cognitive domains" including focus and processing speed. These cognitive domains are linked to "better performance in mathematics and reading comprehension".
