Can be inattentive, distracted and have poor concentration

Visual Discrimination

Difficulty discriminating between money

Difficulty discriminating length and width

Difficulty telling time

Difficulty self-correcting work

Difficulty reading cursive or varied fonts

Difficulty noticing details about people (may impact them socially)

Decreased ability for letter identification (ie. b/p- 'bat' for 'pat')

Visual Memory

Difficulty copying from one place to another

Difficulty remembering the alphabet

Difficulty learning basic math facts

Sequential Memory

Words with similar sequences can cause confusion (from/form or left/felt)

Has difficulty remembering the order of events after reading

Forgets assignments and forgets steps that are shown in an activity

Spatial Relationships

Can confuse b and d, and p and q

Poor directional sense
(confuses left and right)

Transposes letters and numbers ('on' and 'no', 'was' and 'saw', and 24 and '42')

Difficulty reading charts, maps and diagrams

Poor drawing skills

Unable to accurately draw a person

Letter/word reversals (past 1st grade)

Poor letter/word spacing/alignment

Figure Ground

Difficulty fixating or locating a specific word in a paragraph (looking back in the text for answers and details is frustrating) 

Unable to keep place in reading and number work

Delayed ability to find a specific object (such as a pencil in a crayon box)

Easily confused with too much print on the page

Difficulty scanning text to locate specific information

Difficulty completing reading/writing (loses place, omits words, adds words)

Visual Closure

Difficulties in making inferences and predicting outcomes

Difficulty completing a thought

Has difficulty making an accurate judgement from partial information

Confuses similar objects/words, especially words with close beginnings or endings

Oculomotor

Eyes tend to get tired from reading

Frequently rubs their eyes when reading or doing an activity that requires prolonged looking or scanning

Eyes water while reading or working

Has trouble alternating between looking close and far (copying from the board)
